Famine confirmed in Gaza 2025-08-22 12:40:18 NEWS CENTRER - The UN-backed IPC, responsible for monitoring food security, announced that famine has been confirmed in and around Gaza and that "catastrophic conditions" are expected to spread to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis by the end of September.  The United Nations-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) announced the first confirmation of famine in Gaza and its environs, with "catastrophic conditions" expected to spread to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis by the end of September.    The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) called on the health workers and international organisations to prepare for the evacuation of one million residents of the city to shelters in the south.    The operation in Gaza was launched after Hamas attacked Israel on 7 October 2023. Since then, more than 62 thousand people have died in Gaza. In July alone, 112 children died due to starvation.
