Earthquake victims rebelled against their situation

HATAY - The earthquake victim from Hatay, who condemned the authorities' explanations of "there is no water problem" by saying "come and live here", said: "I would not leave my homeland even if I ate soil. We experienced the real disaster not in the earthquake, but in the next period."

Thousands of earthquake victims still cannot reach the tent even after a month after the earthquakes in Maraş center on February 6th. In Hatay, where the most destruction is experienced, earthquake victims are forced to be settled in tent cities established outside their neighborhoods by AFAD. The earthquake victims who do not accept this are not given tents. Earthquake victims are trying to meet their tent needs through municipalities, non-governmental organizations and parties that come to the city in solidarity.

Tent is not the only problem in the city; earthquake victims also need water with portable toilets and showers. Especially earthquake victims, whose houses were damaged, have serious problems at these points. The heavy rainfall and precipitation that were effective in the city further increased the existing problems. Because of this, many of the tents flew and got water. Possible rains in the coming days make earthquake survivors ponder. Earthquake victims want containers to be delivered to them as soon as possible.

THE TENT HE REACHED AFTER 21 DAYS TOOK WATER

Bedrettin Çekmecelioğlu, who took water from the tent he stayed in due to the rain on March 7, is one of the citizens who demanded containers. Çekmecelioğlu, who stayed with his family of 11 in Çekmece Mahallesi of Defne district, was able to reach the tent after 21 days, like many others. Çekmecelioğlu, who struggled to survive in the makeshift shack he built with his own means, rebelled against what he got through by showing the tent that got water due to the rain and his belongings that got wet.

THEY STEAL FROM TENT MATERIAL!

Drawing attention to the fact that tents are not the solution, Çekmecelioğlu described the rainy day as a "nightmare night". Çekmecelioğlu stated that aftershocks were experienced as well as they struggled with storms and rains and said: “We complain to the contractors that materials were stolen from the buildings, but there are also people who are rude enough to steal materials from the tents. We bought this tent after hearing insults."

WHY THE AID COLLECTED DON'T ARRIVE TO VICTIMS?

Indicating that their demand is for containers, Çekmecelioğlu said: “This is a situation that will last for 2 years. They cannot remove the wreckage in 2 years. At least they should provide containers so that we can protect our children. Please take a video of the pollution in the environment, you can see the hygienic environment of this place. Everyone should see where we live. We can't even find drinking water. They literally help. That's how much money is collected. Why are these aids not reaching us? The state says that there is no water problem in the region. who says this should come to live here.”
