RIHA - Emin Güler, a 94 percent disabled and seriously ill prisoner held in Urfa No. 2 Type T Closed Prison, was transferred to Erzincan Type L Closed Prison.

Seriously ill prisoner Emin Güler (33), held in Urfa No. 2 Type T Closed Prison, was transferred to Erzincan Type L Closed Prison. His prisoner friends called their families to inform them that Güler, who is 94 percent disabled, had been transferred. Güler, who was arrested in 2016 on the allegation of "being a member of a terror organization", was sentenced to 11 years and 10 months in prison in the case filed. Güler, who has 1 year and 10 months left until his release, is experiencing many serious health problems such as hepatitis-c (jaundice), COPD and severe vertigo (balance disorder). Güler, who became hemiplegic and paralyzed as a result of C-5 spinal cord injury, has a 94 percent disability report due to the paralysis he suffered.

DEMAND FOR POSTPONEMENT OF EXECUTION WAS REJECTED

Güler's lawyers' application for "postponement of execution" on September 5, 2022, with the report of his physical disability, was rejected with the report prepared by Urfa Mehmet Akif İnan Training and Research Hospital that "he has no illness that would prevent him from staying in prison, he can continue his life in prison."

HE IS KEEPING ON TO LIFE WITH THE HELP OF THE PRISONERS

Güler, who cannot hold both his feet and arms due to paralysis, often has difficulty breathing due to the air gap in his lungs. Güler, who cannot survive alone in prison, clings on to life with the help of his prisoner friends. Güler's demands for release, which is on the seriously ill prisoner list of the Human Rights Association (IHD), have not been accepted many times so far.

NO REFERRAL REQUEST

Unable to demand a transfer, Güler's applications to the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) have remained unanswered to date.

'HE JOINED THE HUNGER STRIKE'

Finally, Güler was among the first group to participate in the rotating hunger strike that was launched on November 27, 2023 within the scope of the "Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, solution to the Kurdish issue" campaign.
